Farnsworth House by Mies van der Rohe

The Edith Farnsworth House, formerly the Farnsworth House, is a historical house designed and constructed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe between 1945 and 1951. The home was built as a one-room getaway for the weekend in a rural location near Plano, Illinois, approximately 60 miles southwest of the central business district of Chicago. Edith Farnsworth is the one who came up with the idea for the house made of steel and glass.

Mies is credited for designing a building that is 1,500 square feet (140 square meters) in size and is regarded as a prime example of the International Style of architecture. Following its inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004, the retreat received the honor of being declared a National Historic Landmark in the year 2006. The National Trust for Historic Preservation is the owner of the home and runs it as a house museum under their auspices.
